Ben Crouch

Music Director and Executive Director

Ben Crouch is an experienced musician from La Grange, Kentucky. Between the instruments he currently plays, he has nearly fifteen years of combined experience. He founded the Kentuckiana Philharmonic Orchestra in 2017, and currently serves as Music Director and Executive Director.
As a cellist, Ben has performed with the Louisville Youth Orchestra, serving in the 2016-2017 season as the principal cellist for the LYO’s Repertory Ensemble under the direction of the LYO’s current music director, Doug Elmore. (In previous years he has also served as the principal cellist for the Serenede and Concert Ensembles.) Ben has also performed as a guest accompanimist for the Oldham County Middle School and High School choirs. For his cello performances, he has recieved multiple distinguished ratings at Oldham County’s ‘Solo and Ensemble’ music performance assesment event, as well as a distinguished rating at the Kentucky (state) Solo and Ensemble event. In addition, he has participated in masterclasses with Paul York, professor of cello at the University of Louisville, and Ross Harbaugh, professor of cello at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music.
As a bassoonist, he has performed with the award-winning Oldham County Middle School band, and is currently the second chair bassoonist in the Oldham County High School Symphonic Band, who two years ago won awards for best woodwind, brass, and percussion sections at the Grand National Adjudicator’s Invitational band clinic in Chattanooga, Tennessee. For two years in a row, he served as the principal bassoonist in the KMEA 5th District All District Band, and again during the 2017-18 school year. As both a string and woodwind player, Ben is well equipped to provide insight into the musicality of both the wind and string sections of the Kentuckiana Philharmonic.
As a conductor, Ben previously served as the assistant conductor of the East Oldham Middle School string orchestra for beginning string players. He has also, on occasion, conducted the Oldham County Middle School Band, as well as the Oldham County High School Symphonic Band. While off the podium, Ben can be found working hard to grow the Kentuckiana Philharmonic Orchestra to its full potential.
